Additional Local Activities and Attractions:
Both of our homes are on Newberry Shores Drive, a quiet 1.2 mile loop great for jogging, bicycling and walking. The wildlife in the area is great, its not uncommon to see ducks, geese, purple martins, blue heron, osprey and as many as two dozen deer in one evening. The fishing at Lake Murray is great. Several guides are available for bass, striper, crappie and perch fishing. They can pick you up at the dock if you like. Some will even clean your catch. We can also arrange for an old fashioned fish fry with all the trimmings. Lake Murray is calmer than other lakes in the area, great for watersports. Wakeboarding is becoming a popular pastime in the area. Our son is an avid wakeboarder and water skier. He teaches watersports lessons on Lake Murray with the latest equipment and a nice wakeboard boat. He can meet you at the dock and provide a great day on the water, even if you’ve never been behind a boat before. If you are interested in finding out more about wakeboarding on Lake Murray, check out lakemurrayroughriders.com Bombing Range Island, thirty minutes from the house by water, is a National Purple Martin habitat. Words cannot describe the number of birds that come in to roost during the summer months at dusk. Guided trips down the lake to see this unbelievable sight are available! By water, our homes are ten minutes away from Dreher Island State Park and Timberlake golf course. The town of Prosperity is ten minutes away from the homes by car. This is your closest location for shopping and groceries, along with restaurants, antiques, custom furniture shops and a great hardware store. Five minutes beyond Prosperity, you will find Newberry which also has many restaurants and antique shops. The Newberry Opera House is a venue offering a great selection of nationally known artists including Charlie Daniels, Kathy Mattea, The Drifters, Robert Earl Keen and Edwin McCain.
