| Welcome to our world! Our house is on a hillside at 8000 feet overlooking Vallecito Lake. We are at the end of the road with the San Juan National Forest as our back property line. You can hike to a beautiful mountain meadow just a mile up from us where the Weminuche Wilderness begins. At 500,000 acres, it is the largest in Colorado, relatively unknown, uncrowded and awesome! Local outfitters can take you by horseback deep into it on one or multi-day trips. The Continental Divide
crosses it north of the property. The retreat is what you would hope for in a mountain getaway. It is very secluded, pretty, warm, cozy and soothing; with wood paneling, aspen T+G vaulted ceilings, and lots of windows to gaze out at God's handiwork. And of course there's
the wraparound deck with gazebo overlooking the lake for dining, gawking, BBQing, or just hanging out. This is our quite biased opinion: We have lived in many
incredible places and have travelled extensively. Upon retirement we moved here from the Aspen area and continue to delight in our special find! This is simply the best!! (honest- we really think so). Being in the four corners area within several hours we can be in so many exciting places. Here's a few wonders that we like to visit that are so diverse, yet close at hand: Mesa Verde- we always take visitors there for the day to see the
Anasazi cliff dwellings, only an hour away. Canyonlands National Park is 3 hrs away and a whole different world. There's also the Durango-Silverton Narrow
Guage train ride. A vintage steam engine takes you through the Animas River canyon to the old mining town of Silverton and back. Many visitors consider this a must do day adventure. Local outfitters can take you on half or full day raft trips on the Animas or Piedra rivers. One or two person inflatable can also be rented for going it on your own! In Pagosa Springs, you can soak in small thermal pools by the river. Durango has Trimble Hot Springs. There are two general stores closeby for groceries, liquor, fishing and hunting licenses, tackle, etc. There are also a few really cool restaurant/taverns just down the hill. Excellent food and pure Colorado Mtn. atmosphere!!! For those who can't make it for the summer season don't despair! Sept., Oct. and Nov. are our favorite seasons! Sunshine abounds, the fishing is great and and the hills are ablaze with autumn color! For just hanging out we have a 42" HDTV/DVR with Directv satelite programming and a really good stereo system (bring your own CDs).You can also surf here! Just bring your laptop, we have wireless DSL. If you are just coming for three nights or less the rate is $275/night, otherwise it's $250/night. Ask for holiday rates. If you'd like us to send you more pics or would like to have all your questions answered in person just call Mike or Kari. We'd love to chat with you! Hint: click on pics to enlarge! If you are coming for a family vacation or for a hunting/fishing/ski/dream/reconnect trip all you need to bring is the desire to be in the heart of one of the most awesome places there is... and ye shall find that which ye seek! - Let your imagination shape your reality, it's easy!!! May all your life adventures be sweet, exciting, survivable, and many!!! Michael and Kari Shobe
