Sixty-year-old Spruce and Cedars that house many different birds, border the properties park like setting. Multilevel decking wraps around the house providing outstanding spots to sit back and watch wildlife, float planes, barges, fishing boats, world-class yachts, and cruise ships. The outdoor covered Spa and Barbaque area, on the waters edge, is the most romantic place to watch Ketchikan’s majestic sunsets. There is a covered SPA and BBQ on the water's edge.
The main house has four distinctive, beautifully appointed guest bedrooms with private entrances and baths, fireplaces, flat screen TV’s with DVD and VCR players, refrigerators, phones and wireless Internet. The Eagles Nest, a one-bedroom suite, is on the top floor of the Inn and has its own private entrance and covered porch. There is a private 2 room Cabin called the Bunkhouse next to the main house.
The Inn's well-designed kitchens offers top of the line appliances, a crystal chandelier, Italian tile work and everything you need to prepare that special meal. Continental breakfast and snacks are always available. Three eating areas are provided for privacy or to accommodate large groups. Catered meals are provided at an additional charge.
The living room has a warm luxurious feel enhanced by a hand built designer fireplace in the corner. A leather couch makes into a queen bed when needed. The room has a flat panel TV, a DVD and VCR player, a game and movie cabinet and a library. There is a full bathroom and spacious laundry room off the living area. The laundry has an ironing area and an upright fish freezer.
The Inn provides free local phone calling and free use of a copy, scan and fax machine. The Inn is non- smoking, but covered porches can be used for smoking.
The Bears Den:
The Bears Den is in the middle of the house on the first floor with easy access for those with limited mobility. The room has a pillow top queen size bed and cozy sitting area with a mirrored closet and 5ft wide sliding glass door leading to a deck overlooking the water. Carl Brender paintings and warm deep rich fall colors adorn the walls. The large private bath features an oversized deep soaking tub and shower, two sinks and a makeup area. The porcelain tile work is outstanding.
The Homestead:
The Homestead, our largest guest bedroom, is dedicated to the host’s great grand parents, who came to Alaska in 1898. It is on the far end of the first floor and also has easy access. The room has a queen size and full size bed with room for two air- beds, when needed. There is an award-winning fireplace built into one wall across from two 5ft mirrored closets. A 6ft wide sliding glass door leads to a deck that overlooks a private boat harbor. The room is richly appointed in muted shades of gold, mauve, and apricot, with fine linens and quality furniture. The walls feature family photos from the turn of the century and other interesting memorabilia. The large private bath has a deep oversized soaking tub and shower, and two sinks.
The Northern Frontier:
The Northern Frontier is on the second floor on the far end of the house. It has a 6ft wide sliding glass door that opens onto a private covered balcony that is perfect for outdoor dining. It’s absolutely the best place to watch the sunset. The room has a queen size bed, plush furnishings, an elegant wall fireplace, and is decorated in the warm floral tones of summer. The connecting private bath has a skylight over the sink, a glass walk in shower, lots of mirrors decorative tile on the counters and floor.
The Ravens Haven:
The Ravens Haven is perfect for honeymooners. This second floor room has a 6 ft sliding glass door and a covered balcony with a spiral staircase leads to the first floor deck and on to the waters edge. The room has a California King bed, a beautifully designed corner fireplace, 6ft. wide mirrored closet doors, and is decorated in lavenders, purples and shadow beige. One of Fred Machetanz’s best polar bear paintings hangs on the wall,
above the bed. The attached private bath has a high cathedral ceiling with a large skylight, a glass walk-in shower and decorative porcelain tile on the counters and floor.
The Eagles Nest:
The Eagles Nest is located on the top floor of the Black Bear Inn. It has its own private entrance and covered porch. This luxury suite is decorated in shades of blue, tan and cream. The suite features the artwork of Fred Machetanz, Sidney Laurence and Nathalie Parenteau. The kitchen and living room have hardwood floors. Decorative Italian porcelain and travertine adorn the kitchen counters, the bathroom, the laundry room and the front foyer. The kitchen is stocked for self-serve continental breakfast and everything you need to cook your own meals. The eating area and living room have large wrap around windows overlooking the ocean and mountains, a freestanding gas fireplace, a gathering table, two leather love seats and a flat panel TV. Bald Eagles perch on Spruce trees right outside the windows. Unforgettable sunsets can be seen from all the rooms. The bedroom has plush carpet, a flat panel TV, two double beds, and accommodates one to four guests. A private phone line, DVD and VCR players, a radio with CD player, and wireless high speed Internet are provided. Plenty of off street parking is available on site and additional parking for RV’s, boats and boat trailers is located a half block away. Smoking is permitted on the closed in front porch.
The Bunkhouse:
The Bunkhouse is a very romantic private cabin that sets beside the main house and overlooks the Tongass Narrows. It was originally floated to the property in 1940 from a cannery camp up north and opened for guests in July of 2007.
The cabin walls are finished in white-washed red cedar and the floors are done in porcelain and slate. The main room has a queen bed, a fireplace, a ceiling fan, an eating and sitting area and large picture windows overlooking the water. There is a small kitchenette and a bathroom with a great travertine walk-in shower. The second bedroom has a single bed and a beautiful view of the rock gardens. The open sun deck runs across the front of the cabin and is a great place to set and enjoy the Inside Passage.
