Experience tropical Hawaii at it’s finest in this unique pole house nestled just above Kealakekua Bay ("Pathway of the Gods") in Captain Cook, Hawaii. At this elevation you will enjoy the perfect climate and sweeping 180+ degree views of the ocean, Mauna Loa and Kealakekua Bay, in a quiet and comfortable setting. Watch breathtaking sunsets from the spacious upper lanai that wraps around the house.

Pu`uhonua House (Place of Refuge House) was built in 1988 by a physicist and his wife. As a former sailor he and his wife had traveled to many parts of the world, before they chose this spot to build their dream home. Being a physicist he was intrigued by the simplicity and structural durability a pole house has to offer. Supported by nine thirty foot tall cedar poles imported from Washington state, this house unlike traditionally constructed homes, has a more open floor plan allowing for more glass. The main living level perimeter is nearly all glass/view. You feel as though you are part of your beautiful surroundings. All of the structural and finish components of the house were all hand crafted on site.

In addition to being five minutes from the pristine and warm waters of Kealakekua Bay, Pu`uhonua house is centrally located on the Kona coast and is the ideal base from which to explore the Big Island of Hawaii. The historic City of Refuge National Park, which is part of the spectacular views you are treated to from the upper lanai, is only minutes away and is well known for its sea turtles, snorkeling, as well as an in depth look at Hawaii’s multi-faceted past cultural traditions. Hawaii’s Volcano National Park is 90 minutes to the south and Kailua-Kona is 15 minutes to the north. We are only thirty minutes away from Kona airport. A copy of Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed is available for guests to peruse at their leisure for specific details on other local sites and attractions. After a day of adventure is over, be sure to make it back to the house in time to take in the sight of the sun melting into the ocean from the tranquility of your own secluded vacation hideaway.

Deposits
A $500 deposit is due within 10 days of the reservation, with full rental amount due 60 days prior to arrival.

Other Fees
Listed rates include for 4 guests.$25 per night for each additional occupant. Discount of 10% for 10 or more days. Hawaii taxes 11.42% not included. There is an out cleaning fee of $250. Holiday rates vary. Please inquire

Cancellation Policy
We will refund your deposit (minus a 15% handling fee) if cancellation is made at least 60 days prior to arrival date. If cancellation is made after that time your deposit will be refunded (minus a 15% fee) only if another reservation is secured.
