| Tucked away down a dirt lane in the historic Eastside of Santa Fe this adobe lodging has just two accomodations, the bed and breakfast Suite in the main house and the Casita, a two bedroom guest house next door. While Dunshee's is one of the smallest, most intimate bed and breakfasts in New Mexico, the accomodations are incredibly spacious, with traditional New Mexican features, modern amenities, and the artist/owner's personal touches: fresh flowers, a wonderful art collection, homemade cookies, good books and great breakfasts.
While each unit is comparable in size, style, amenities and price, each has distinct advantages. If there are only two of you and you are looking for full gourmet breakfasts, a lot of outdoor space and personalized service every morning, the bed and breakfast Suite is for you. If you are more independent types or want the extra bedroom or kitchen, the Casita would better meet your needs. The Casita is also good for extended stays in Santa Fe as there is a weekly rate with reduced services.
Dunshee's is ideally situated just a mile from the bustle of the plaza and a few blocks from the galleries and restaurants of Canyon Road. Proprietor Susan Dunshee lives in the main house and is happy to give directions and candid opinions on where to eat, sightsee, shop and hike and to make sure you make the most of your time in New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment. Whether for a quick getaway or an extended stay, make Dunshee's your Santa Fe home.
Next to the main house, the Casita is a separate two bedroom guest house which is both spacious and cozy. Brightened by skylights, the inviting main room has a comfortable sitting area with a kiva fireplace at one end and a kitchen/dining area at the other. It's furnished with country antiques, quilts, plants and a great collection of books and art plus modern amenities: stereo-CD player, cable TV and telephone. The larger bedroom, sunny and yellow, has a queen bed, skylight, vanity and antique washstand. The second bedroom has an antique cherry double bed and lace-covered windows looking out to the private back patio. Two additional beds are provided by the sleigh trundle bed in the foyer. The Mexican-tiled bathroom has a tub-shower and a hair dryer. Besides the private patio in back for lounging and reading, there is a flower-filled patio in front where you can enjoy your morning coffee or evening wine under a big cottonwood tree.
The Casita is kept stocked daily with all you will need for a healthy breakfast: gourmet coffee, fresh juice, seasonal fruit, yogurt, homemade granola and a variety of delicious muffins. Help yourself whenever you get up. If you're here for an extended stay you will probably want to take advantage of the fully equipped kitchen for other meals, too. You're welcome to herbs and tomatoes from the garden.
With the weekly rate, the kitchen is not restocked beyond the generous initial supplies. Rather than daily maid service, the Casita is cleaned once a week and linens are changed twice a week.
While you can be as independent as you like in the Casita, artist/proprietor Susan Dunshee is just next door if you need any assistance or advice.
The B&B Suite provides you with spacious accommodations for your exclusive use. A private entrance opens onto a large L-shaped living room. One section has a cozy sitting area with fireplace and the other has an eclectic library and an antique harvest table for breakfasts those mornings when it's too chilly to dine outdoors. One set of French doors opens to a sheltered, flower-filled patio while a second set opens onto a portal overlooking a large garden with fruit trees, flower beds, redwood walks, gazebo, sun deck and rose garden.
Down the hall there is a large bedroom with queen bed, a second fireplace, comfortable reading chairs and a view to the garden. A Mexican-tiled full bath is adjacent to the bedroom. The rooms are furnished with country antiques, quilts, plants and original art by local and folk artists. Modern amenities completing the home environment are a phone, TV, stereo CD player, refrigerator, microwave and coffee-maker. A stay in the suite comes with a full breakfast including different daily offerings such as omelettes with herbs fresh from the garden, sour cream pancakes or a green chile souffle, in addition to fresh-squeezed juice, fresh-ground coffee, homemade muffins, seasonal fruit.
